Bassnectar Draws Focus Away From Album Release to Use His Platform for Social Justice

Police brutality and racism in America have once again been catapulted to the foreground as cities are torn to pieces over the murder of George Floyd. Musicians are jumping in, using their large followings to show support and direct our attention to the deep, systemic issues rooted in our society’s foundation. Over the last few days, Bassnectar, along with many other artists, turned to social media to take a stand against injustice in this country, posting donation links and reminding everyone that Black Lives Matter. They have even challenged themselves, and each other, to match donations.

Rioting and chaos have broken out across the country amidst a global pandemic… What should artists be doing?

Maybe try to get friends and family to match your own donation (if you are able, of course)!

But what about the album?!

We LOVE to see artists using their platforms for good– promoting positivity and taking a stand when necessary– but we also love new music. Bassnectar served us both in the last week and a half, with a side of his Lockdown Mixtape.

Three new jams from his upcoming album All Colors were included in this week’s mixtape and are now available for streaming. “Rise & Shine,” “Rewind The Track,” and “Uebok Gotta Run” are another taste of the highly anticipated album to be released on June 19th. Each of these latest songs is completely different, guaranteeing a certain whimsical surprise factor when the full album drops next month. Fans are left wanting more, and we don’t even know what we’re asking for… it’s riveting. Between “Preview” and “Preview 2,” I think it’s safe to say that All Colors is shaping up to be a staple album of the summer.

It sure is nice to have something to look forward to during the apocalypse!
