Weird Radar Review: 11 & 28 by Trey Songz, R&B Royalty
I know there’s been a lot of talk about who the king of R&B is, and the conversation has been going on for a week or two now. I’m not the one who usually falls for these kind of debates, because I know there’s room for everybody to make their own path. As a teenager, I was getting more into Trey Songz.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Trey Songz and I loved “I Gotta Make It.” I became even more impressed with “Trey Day,” but his album that gained a major amount of attention was, Ready.
Ready was released in 2009, and that was an interesting time in music. This was when social media just starting to become a thing, and he used a lot of personal connection and made his self completely available via social media to promote and campaign for the album.
I’m sure you guys also remember Ustream and SayNow? Do you guys remember those days? These were some of the things that Trey Songz, and many other artists used to gain more fans, and let them know what they’re doing at all times. Ever since then, Trey Songz has only been able to progress even further in his career.
After releasing 12 mixtapes and 2 EPs, he’s back for more!
Trey Songz decided to celebrate his 34th birthday by releasing 2 new mixtapes, 11 & 28, on November 28, 2018. Trey saves most of 11 for his self, with a few features from Teddy Riley, Tory Lanez, & Ty Dolla $ign.
As for 28, Trey unleashes all the features, he has artists such as, 2 Chainz, Yo Gotti, Swae Lee (of Rae Sremmurd), O.T. Genasis, Chris Brown, Jeremih, Dave East, and so many other artists!
I’ve been taking in all of the music, and I’m impressed. I remember when Trey Songz was releasing mixtapes like Anticipation, and they were more sexual than 11 & 28.
Trey Songz is a sex symbol and sometimes that comes with the territory of being in R&B, but you can hear he’s matured with the music. Of course you still get your sexual songs, because that side can’t be abandoned, but with 11 you hear more of Trey trying to get more of an understanding of his woman, be there for his woman, and take care of her.
28 has more of radio records that everyone wants to hear and they’re more fun and uptempo. Either way, these 2 tapes showcase his versatility, and that he has so much music to give to the R&B world, which makes him a king in R&B in my eyes.
