Amy Lee Opens up About Politics and the Future of Evanescence

Evanescence’s latest single, “Use My Voice,” caused some uproar as Amy Lee encouraged her fan base to vote and make their voice heard at the upcoming US election.

With anything political, Lee found herself in the middle of some criticism for taking a more direct stance in her politics.

The most common criticism being that she’s just a musician that needs to stick to making music. Lee’s response has been focused on creating unity and coming together. In an interview with SiriusXM, Lee said she wanted everyone to have the ability to fact check, do research, and then assess all the information and with it make their own choice.

Why She is Using Her Voice

Her political stance may be more obvious, but she still wants there to be discussions and most importantly unity. That is why Lee is amplifying her voice and teaming up with HeadCount, a nonpartisan organization. HeadCount tells you all the information you need in your state and city to vote.

Lee has often stayed quiet about these matters but, she said she could no longer stay silent as it was starting to weigh her down. “Use My Voice,” with the help of HeadCount, is a song asking people to stand by what they believe in and vote.

I definitely still don’t want to divide people. Our job as artists — to me — is to bring people together. Also, it’s to provoke thought. You think about a concert, you think about bringing all those people into a room and making them look into their core and find similarities between each other, in a way. Because at the core of everything, we’re not red, we’re not blue, we’re not anything. We’re just people. And I want that.

“The Bitter Truth.”

The album is being slowly released single by single. “We’re still writing, but we’re also recording,” Lee said to SXM.

“We got four songs down, and then we really had to just be apart. And that was kind of good, but kind of hard — we just worked remotely for a while. We got the American band members back together. After getting COVID tests and tour buses brought guys from both coasts, and we all holed up in Nick Raskulinecz, our producer, his private studio, so we were quarantining together for a little over a month”

As of now, it is unclear when The Bitter Truth will be made available in its entirety. Lee revealed there is no “official release,” but she does like to look at the release as currently happening.

“The idea behind this whole thing was always to just go one at a time, release it a little at a time, in real time with the fans while it’s still going on and it’s still fresh, and just live in the moment more. So in my mind, it is being released — this is part of it. We live in a new world where it’s not all about just dropping a big pile of music all at once. People don’t always consume music that way.”
