Kanye West Announces That He Is Running for President
On the Fourth of July, Kanye West took to Twitter to announce his presidential run. “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION.”
This is not the first time that West has addressed a desire to run for president. In 2019, while being interviewed at Fast Company: Uncensored and Uncut, West stated, “When I run for president in 2024, we would’ve created so many jobs… What I’m saying is, when y’all read the headlines, ‘Kanye’s crazy,’ this and that, this and that, it’s like one in three African-Americans are in jail and all of the celebrities are in jail also because they can’t say nothing [sic]! They’ve got no opinion! They’re so scared!”
At the time, West was met with laughter and even now West is met with mixed reviews but, there have been some immediate support from some big names.
Not even ten minutes after West’s tweet, Elon Musk responded and told West he had his full support.
There has been no further tweets from West further explaining his plan for 2020, but wife Kim Kardashian West replied to West’s tweet with an American flag in support of his “official running statement.”
West’s announcement seemed to inspire Paris Hilton to also announce “her running.” Who knows how sincere Hilton is with her announcement, but time will tell what is to come from West along with Hilton.
